How to Make Rasgulla Recipe

This is a step to step guide to make perfect soft and spongy Rasgulla or Rosogolla at home. These are Pakistani/Indian sweets that are basically made with cottage cheese and are cooked in sugar syrup. Super simple and easy to make with simple ingredients available at your home.

To make Rasgulla you need the following ingredients:

Ingredients for Rasgullas:

  • Milk 5 cups
  • Vinegar 3-4 tbsp

Sugar Syrup:

  • Water 4 cups
  • Sugar 1 cup
  • Cardamom 3-4

Method to make Rasgullas:

First Step: Make Cottage Cheese

To make cottage cheese you need to boil 5 cups of milk. Once the milk is boiled add 3-4 tbsp of vinegar, add one tbsp at a time and mix till the milk curdles.

Now add a muslin cloth over a container and stain in. Add cold water on top so that the vinegar is removed from the cottage cheese. Now squeeze the muslin cloth and remove all the water from cottage cheese. Hang the muslin cloth with a thread over the tap for 20 minutes so that all the water is removed from it.

Knead the Cottage Cheese:

When all the water from the cottage cheese is removed you need to knead the cottage cheese for at least good 5-7 minutes from the palm of your hand. The cottage cheese will become smooth like a dough. The cottage cheese should be grain free.

Now cut the cottage cheese in equal parts and make small balls . You ca shape them circle or oval as per your liking.

Make Sugar Syrup:

Add 4 cups of water in a pan( make sure the pan is deep) . Add 1 cup of sugar along with 3-4 green cardamoms and cook it until the water is boiled and sugar is dissolved in it.

When the water is boiled and sugar is dissolved add the cottage cheese balls in it and cook it with a lid on top. Do not remove the lid for 10 minutes and do not touch the cottage cheese during the cooking time.

Now remove the lid and cook without the lid, on medium flame for 5 more minutes.

Let it cool :

Transfer to a pan along with the sugar syrup and let it cool in the fridge for about 2-3 hours.
