Tres Leches Cake – Three Milk Cake Recipe

Tres Leches Cake is is a sponge cake which is soaked in three different types of milk. Tres means three, so three milks are used to soak the sponge cake : condensed milk , evaporated milk and whole milk or cream.
This cake is extremely delicious and you will be a fan once you eat it. It is very simple to make. Firstly you need to make a basic vanilla sponge cake. Then soak it in the milk and lastly top it off with whipped cream and chocolate. It is made in variety of ways. Some top this cake with caramel, some with chocolate and some also use lotus spread that makes it a lotus three milk cake.

Ingredients:
Cake :
- Eggs 4
- Sugar 1/2 cup
- Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon
- Baking powder 1 teaspoon
- All purpose flour 1/2 cup
- Oil 1/4cup
- Bake at 170 20-25 mins
Milks to soak:
- Evaporated milk 1 cup
- Condensed milk 1/2 cup
- Cream 1/2 cup
- Milk 1/2 cup
Topping:
- Cream 1 cup
- Sugar 2 tbsp
- Chocolate melted 1/2 cup
First Step: Make Sponge Cake
For the first step you need to make a basic sponge cake. Add 4 eggs in a bowl along with sugar 1/2 cup and beat it till it is double in size and is light and fluffy. Beat for atleast 3-5 minutes.
Then add Oil 1/4 cup and vanilla essence 1 teaspoon beat it till it is mixed. Now add baking powder 1 teaspoon and 1/2 cup all purpose flour gradually and mix it with spatula or hand mix but very gently with light hands. DO NOT OVERMIX OTHERWISE THE FOAM OF THE EGGS WILL DISAPPEAR AND THE CAKE WILL NOT BE SOFT AND FLUFFY.

Then add it to a baking pan either greased or lined with parchment paper. BAKE it at 170*C for 20-25 minutes. Do not forget to preheat the oven at 170*C for 10-15 minutes before adding the cake in the oven.
Once the cake is done let it cool. Then demold it, remove the parchment paper and add it in the baking pan again.

Second Step: Make Milk Mixture For Three Milk Cake
Simply add 1 cup evaporated milk, 1/2 cup condensed milk, 1/2 cup cream and 1/2 cup milk in a jug or bowl and mix.
Place your cake in the baking pan again and poke it with fork to make small holes. Then add the liquid mixture all over the cake. Cover it and set it in the fridge for 4-5 hours or best is to keep overnight so that the liquid is all soaked in the cake.
After 4-5 hours or if you have kept overnight you will see that the liquid is all soaked in the cake.
Last Step: Prepare cream for topping
Take 1 cup of whipping cream, add 2 tbsp of sugar and whip it until stiff peaks are formed. Then add 1/2 cup milk chocolate and mix it again.

Spread it over the cake and smooth it with a spoon. Add Chocolate on top to make swirls.
